Kids' Backporch Productions
RON SOLOMON, our founder, president, and creative
director, started in theatre as a kid. When he was six
years old, he discovered puppets - marionettes - and
would spend hours and hours putting together puppet
shows in several wooden theatres his father built for
him. Around the age of 8, he began making up plays with
the neighbor kids, using someone's backporch as a
stage. At the age of 12, he began performing with the
Bonfils Children's Theatre in Denver. He played Roo in
their first production of Winnie the Pooh - the same
version we opened our Pearland theatre with in October
2005!
Biography and Philosophy of Ron Solomon - - -
|
Mr. Solomon "graduated" to adult musicals, dramas, and comedies as a
performer. He then birthed a children's church program called Caraway St. that
has been sold in 42 states and 7 foreign countries. In Feb/Mar 2007, a DVD version
will be shot in Seattle!
In 1996, Ron added directing to his credits by directing three productions a year for
five years at Plymouth Middle School in Minnesota. He also taught drama classes
to children with community education in various Minnesota cities. Local
community theatres, two of which he started, began requesting his directorial
talent with such productions as Cheaper by the Dozen, Meet Me In St. Louis, and
Harvey. Mr. Solomon has also been a drama director at three churches and a
children's pastor at three; most recently at Crosspoint Fellowship in Pearland. He
has also taught drama to children at Sing & Play Fine Arts Studios.
Mr. Solomon has worked as an actor with Theatre Under the Stars in such
productions as Brigadoon and Anything Goes!. He has also appeared as a guest
artist with the A.D. Players, a baritone soloist with the Houston Symphony, and,
most recently, at the Alley Theatre.
Mr. Solomon enjoys providing young performers what they need to give great
performances. He does this with respect, patience, and an ability to stretch a
person beyond what they thought they could give! He listens and allows the
performer - no matter their age - to contribute their own ideas to the creative
process. Every actor is important - whether they have a leading role or are a part
of the chorus. Excellence is the aim - not perfection. His goal is to make everyone
look good and for the performance to glorify the Creator. He strives to make
everyone feel connected to the play or musical, to learn and grow, and to get better
at what they have a passion for - and have fun, too! As a result (parents tell us!),
kids "come out of their shell", they finally find their "niche", they develop
self-confidence, make new friends, and feel proud of their contributions and
accomplishments. This is the "heart" of Ron Solomon and what Kids' Backporch
Productions is all about!
Join Ron in the adventure of building a theatre where dreams come true and the
ultimate Creator can be honored!
